Eat, Play, Love
In the 3 restaurants of the 100 Maneiras group, love is a verb to play with, with your mouth full. Romantic love and love between friends, unmeasured love and love that doesn’t fit into boxes with a pre-defined label (although 100 Maneiras love is served inside the box, too, this year). Love is love – and it is this whole, free and without shame love that we celebrate with everything we’ve got on February 14th.
There’s no way around it – and even if there was, we wouldn’t want to escape it. Valentine’s Day can be quite cheesy and lame, but that’s just how true love is. And it is to celebrate true love, no matter its format or dimension, that the group’s three restaurants open their doors, on February 14th, with three special menus for all lovers – and a surprise inside the box, to take love home.
“Volim te” – this is how you say “I love you” in Bosnian. And it might be a good idea to start practicing to make a great impression when, at Bistro’s tables, the first moment of the special Valentine’s menu arrives, created by the team led by executive chef Manuel Maldonado and head chef Eugeniu Musteata. Somun bread, uštipci, pasteta, kajmac, ajvar and stelja make up the list of specialties from the former Yugoslavia that welcome lovers on this day. Scallops, Wagyu tartare and a Red shrimp aguachile are the stars in the starters that follow, getting the appetite ready for a Seafood ravioli and creamy bisque and a Pithivier of smoked duck magret, foie gras and black truffle, in a feast of love which ends with an Alentejo’s saffron soufflé and São Tomé and Príncipe’s chocolate sorbet – two ingredients with alleged aphrodisiac properties. So you can always blame them if you feel the temperature rise, although the wines are included in the menu, also available in a vegetarian or meat-free version (120 euros per person).
From Bosnia and with love comes also much of the inspiration behind the special version of The Story (340 euros per person, with champagne flute and wine pairing) served at the tables of the starred Restaurant 100 Maneiras, on February 14th. In the menu of 14 moments (coincidence or not, we leave it to the discretion and faith in magic of each one), unmissable classics of 100 Maneiras (“Welcome to Bosnia”, “Sarajevo Cigar”, “Mixed Salad” and “ The Last Supper” are some of them) come together with dishes chosen to ignite passion on this date, such as the Reineta apple from Fontanelas, brandy DOC Lourinhã and seaweed or the Saffron crème-brûlée, roasted cocoa foam and bergamot snow.
And if Valentine’s calls for flowers, we answer: this year, we respond to the requests of many families and, for the first time, the famous Flower Bread (part of the first moment of the menu, “Welcome to Bosnia”) is available to order , to share at home with those you love the most. These special “flowers” (€10/2 units) can be ordered until February 13th (by calling +351910307575 or email at info@100maneiras.com) and collected between February 12th and 14th, from 4pm to midnight, at Bistro 100 Maneiras.
In the group’s Mexican gastrobar, Carnal, more than Valentine’s Day, what is celebrated on the 14th of February, following Mexican tradition, is Día del Amor y la Amistad – the Day of Love and Friendship. A date that fits particularly well in a space whose name, Carnal, precisely means “a friend who is like family”. It is Carnal Love, then – the one that unites lovers, friends and family – that is honored in a menu designed by the team led by Mexican chef Luis Ortiz. Guacamole, tostadas, gringas, tacos, Birria and a sweet Gordita at the end are some of the moments that make up this trip to Mexico (75 euros per person) designed to be shared with pleasure by two, three or as many as you want, with wines included to make the flight lighter.
Reservations for Valentine’s Day are already available in all restaurants using the contact details below, as well as the orders for the special edition of 100 Maneiras’ Flower Bread. Let’s share the love.
