Bistro represented at Glassology by Libbey
João Sancheira, bartender at Bistro 100 Maneiras, is one of the three Portuguese and the only one currently working in Portugal in the list of semifinalists of the second edition of Glassology by Libbey. In total, there are 24 bartenders who are still competing for a place in the final, which will take place in May 2018, at the Perfect Serve Bar Show, in Amsterdam.
The competition is organized by Libbey, a glassware company established in 1818, which now sells its products in more than 100 countries, producing more than one billion pieces a year in its five factories, one in Portugal. With this contest, the company challenges bartenders from Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand to design their ideal glass to demonstrate how the perfect glass completes the drinking experience. Thus, in addition to designing the glass, each bartender must also present a drink which complements it.
To the challenge, João Sancheira, passionate about glass designs (which he collects), responded with a piece designed for carbonated drinks. This glass placed him closer to reaching the list of six finalists, to be chosen in the end of February.
The winner of the competition will have his glass produced and sold worldwide, as well as a place as a spot in in the jury of the next contest and a completely arranged trip to Tales of the Cocktail, in New Orleans, USA.
