Día de los Muertos brings party to Carnal
It’s already a tradition at Carnal: on October 31st, the spirit of Día de los Muertos is celebrated, gathering at the same table, under the gaze of the mythological figures created by Carlito Dalceggio, chef Luis Ortiz’s Mexican-inspired food, the tequila and mezcal-based cocktails from the bar run by Rafael Vairinhos and João Franco and some surprises capable of raising the dead. Well, maybe it depends on the dead: this year, the party features free Volcan tequila shots for all guests at every hour. From 7pm onwards, until 2am, Carnal offers a round of shots to ensure that souls and bodies are alive and well. And to help keep temperatures high, the gastrobar created by the 100 Maneiras group will also feature Guerrilha Sound System, known for its mestizo sounds and Afro-tropical rhythms which, on that evening, promises to serve “a set inspired by the noche de los muertos with all the Latin latitudes”.
Recognized with a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide in November 2022 – a distinction that has been renewed since then – the Mexican gastrobar opened on November 21, 2021, was born as a project for the “hijos” of 100, namely Manuel Maldonado, executive chef of the group , and Luis Ortiz, the Mexican chef in charge of Carnal’s kitchen. Since its opening, themed parties and guest bartending have been a constant feature of this space located on Rua da Misericórdia (just a few meters from its “big brother” Bistro 100 Maneiras), which this year won a Travellers’ Choice Award from Tripadvisor, placing it “among the 10% best restaurants in the world” based on reviews made on this platform.
Reservations for Día de los Muertos are now available through Carnal’s contacts.
